Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Eau Activée® toxic ?

No, because the Eau Activée® only contains hypothiocyanite ions (OSCN-), which have been tested on cellular and genetic material without revealing any toxic effect even in strong concentrations.

Moreover, their lifetime is limited.

How do the hypothiocyanite ions (OSCN-) contained in the Eau Activée® break down ?

In the CATALLIX process, the only OSCN- ions that can break down are those which have not reacted on the treated foodstuff. These ions can break down as follows:

SCN- (thiocyanates ions), H2O, SO4 (2-), CO2, NH3

What about thiocyanate ions (SCN-), are they not toxic?

No. SCN- are naturally present in some human and animal body fluids, where they play a key role in the natural protection system.
Moreover, our body naturally transforms into thiocyanate ions the glucosinolate it ingest. And glucosinolates are present in numerous vegetables.
Cf. Thiocyanate contents coming from the ingestion of vegetables
Thiocyanate concentrations in human body fluids

Thiocyanate ions are not hazardous neither for men neither for animals, unless they are ingested in enormous proportions.
Cf. Thiocyanate toxicity towards the human body
Acute toxicity of thiocyanate towards animals

In the worst processing situation, the
Eau Activée increases by 10 % the quantity of OSCN- ions that is naturally present in the treated product. At this point, the product is far from being toxic for human and animal beings. Anyway, no residual product can remain on the food as it is automatically rinsed after treatment.

I have heard that lactoperoxidase processing was expensive?

The current technologies based on lactoperoxidase all use the enzyme in its free form. The enzyme is used once to catalyse a reaction and then wasted. This method is actually very expensive, in particular if you compare it to chlorination.

But the CATALLIX process "immobilises" the enzyme so as to recover and recycle it. In this way, we can use the enzyme during its whole lifetime and the processing cost considerably decreases. As a matter of fact, we can produce tons of Eau Activée and so treat a large amount of products with only a few grams of lactoperoxydase.

Are there only two sizes of biogenerator?

Only two models are showed in the website but other sizes are available. Actually, we manufacture equipements according to your needs.

Contact-us and we will work out a solution together, in order to adapt CATALLIX food safety equipement to your processing lines.

Are CATALLIX and TMI Europe two different companies ?
In fact, Catallix® is a registered trademark, owned by TMI Europe public company.
L'Eau Activée® is also a registered trademark owned by TMI Europe.

I am interested in this technology and would like to trial the process on my products; what must I do?

In general, we first test CATALLIX® processing on your products in our laboratory before testing it on your production lines.

Contact-us and we will answer you as quick as we possible.
