Introduction

In order to assess the opportunities
for the implementation of recently developed membrane technology
in the agrofood sector, it is proposed to carry out an analysis
of the strenghts and the weakness of various options, their related
investments and expected operational conditions. In each of the
4 countries concerned by the action, a survey will be conducted
in 6 SMEs to investigate concrete possibilities of application
of the technology- The proposers will set up for each country
an inventory of the energetic, economical and financial stakes
of the different technology options in view of the definition
of a strategy for the promotion of the membrane technology in
the agrofood sector. The results of the action wilt be eventually
presented in a workshop with a feedback to the visited enterprises. |

- This proceeding allows the
purification and the recycling of the wastewater, It essentially
consists of a biological reactor for activated sludge together
with a module of ultra-filtration. The biological reactor is
of heavy loads of sludge (15 to 20 g/1 instead of 3 to 5 g/1
in classical reactor); these sludge circulate to high speed in
the circuit of the module (case of the proceeding in external
loop). This strong agitation brings a considerable disintegration
of the sludge and, at the module outlet, an aeration by air injector
is made (case of the proceeding in external loop). The agitation
and the forced aeration bring a very big purifying efficiency
: for a similar load (9 to 10 kg of BOD5), a setting time of
one hour is necessary instead of 24 hours in classical facilities.
Water recovered through membranes is lightly treated with bleach
in order to keep its absence of contamination. Its quality is
such that it can be used again.
- This technology can be of
interest for the sectors requiring a biological treatment.. It
can be competitive for low volumes " 500 m3/d) even very
competitive for very concentrated effluents.
- Advantages :
· Possibility to reach norms with bighly concentrated
wastes
· Compatibility of the system, easy enlarging when needed
· No solid rejeas plus physical bacterial buher
· 50% minimum decrease of sludge production (compared
to activated sludge)
· ·Minimal space
· An interesting financial alternative
- Constraints :
· Maintenance (like all plants)
· Exploitation costs
· Acceptation of the technology , agreement of relevant
administrations
